Archaeological excavations made on the grounds of Benniksgaard indicate a history which dates back to the Stone Age.
Much has happened since the site was first mentioned in written sources of 1293.
Until 1997 the manor was run as a regular farm. There has been a mink- and deer farm, a farm shop and a gallery.
Around 1995 the place started functioning as a cultural centre hosting concerts and in 1998 Queen Ingrid inaugurated Benniksgaard Golfplace; an 18-hole course landscaped on Benniksgaard's protected land alongside Flensborg Fjord.
2001 saw the establishment of a hotel with rooms, meeting facilities and a restaurant within the former stables and granaries. This place undergoes constant development - and it is well worth a visit!
